Player Guidelines

The Alberta Golf Tour has been operating since December 2012. There is no fee to join the Alberta Golf Tour, but all players must have a verifiable handicap index through Golf Canada. You may join with a Gold Membership through Golf Canada/Alberta Golf here: join.golfcanada.ca. We are committed to creating camaraderie among our competitors and believe that we can still have fun while competing in a professional-style tour.

Registration
Players may sign up for any event on the Alberta Golf Tour Website at www.albertagolftour.com. Space in events is sold first-come, first-served. Once a tournament has been paid for, the entry is considered confirmed.

Cancellation
You may cancel up to 2 weeks prior to the event. Cancellations up to 2 weeks before the event are subject to processing fees, or the full amount may be left as a credit on account. Cancellations from 8-14 days are subject to a $50 administrative fee. Any cancellations within 7 days are subject to the full amount, as the golf courses require final numbers prior to this time.

Format
There are a variety of formats utilized in the Alberta Golf Tour. Most events will be gross stroke play, but we have introduced Stableford and Match Play formats as well.

Flights
The Alberta Golf Tour incorporated a “Dynamic Flighting” system in 2015, which will see the usually pre-determined handicap indexes in which the flights are created, on a sliding scale based on the total tournament entries and the most fair groupings based on two items (in order): handicap index (fairness in groupings based on gross stroke play), and even number of competitors throughout all flights (to create even prize pools from flight to flight). Flights are not determined based on age or gender – they are based on handicap only. However, the tee from which a player will play from will depend upon their age and gender and will be set by the Tour Director. The Alberta Golf Tour reserves the right to move a player to any flight, and to implement a “Tour Handicap” at any time based on past Alberta Golf Tour scores by a player. Players must post scores immediately following the tournament.

Tee Times
Tee times will be posted a minimum of 48 hours prior to the event. There is no guarantee of requested times or pairings, but we will try to accommodate for those traveling a long distance or other one-off type of reasons. Players are expected to check in a minimum of 30 minutes prior to their tee time. This may be different due to Covid-19, so please read pre-tournament emails thoroughly for current rules.

Caddies & Spectators - NOT ALLOWED DURING 2020 SEASON
Caddies and spectators are allowed so long as they walk the course and do not interfere with play. Players are responsible for their caddies and any associated spectators. If there are issues with the behaviour of a caddie or spectator, they will be asked to leave. The player may be liable for any associated penalties for breaching any rules as outlined in Rule 6.1.

Player Conduct
All players, caddies, and spectators will conduct themselves in a responsible and respective manner at all times. The Alberta Golf Tour reserves the right to revoke the ability to play for any conduct deemed inappropriate, including slow play.

Scoring
Players must exchange their scorecards with another player in the group and keep the score of that player, and their own score on the bottom perforated area. Each player and scorer must sign the scorecard in the designated area on the card attesting that each hole score is correct. At the end of the round, the perforated strip should be used to check the accuracy of one’s own official card. Players are to go directly to the designated scoring area immediately following the round and can bring up any rulings issues at this point.

Prizes
There is a $20 prize allocation per entry fee. Payouts will be in the form of “AGT Bucks” and may be used towards subsequent tournament fees, or Pro Shop product to be ordered from an agreed upon Pro Shop. Please email the Tour Director at info@albertagolftour.com to request redeemed amounts. The prize payout structure is as follows:
