Power Rankings - Mountain Tracks: May 2019 UPDATE

This past May Long weekend I was spoiled as far as playing golf in Alberta goes. I got to play both of our Fairmont courses in Jasper and Banff and as far as golf weekends go that's hard to beat .Last year I ruffled some feathers and released a "Power Rankings" for my favourite mountain tracks. It came with some varied opinions, exactly what I hoped to achieve by publishing it. But last year I had not played Banff Springs. So here we are once again, tasked with updating the Power Rankings of Alberta's Mountain Tracks. For last year's list click here!

8. Brewster's Kananaskis Ranch

7. Hinton

6. Kananaskis - Lorette

5. Kananaskis - Kidd

4. Banff Springs

Banff was awesome. The Devil's Cauldron is epic. Hitting that approach shot (assuming you're in the fairway...) into the 14th hole with the hotel in the background is straight out of Harry Potter. The tee box on the next hole that's right by the pub's patio seems like the best spot to post up in the middle of summer if you're a fan of golf and amazing scenery. I've just hit a point where it has to fit somewhere in the rankings. 4 seems like a bit of a knock against the course but in no way is that a representation of how much fun I had playing it. We are just so spoiled with the quality of golf we have in the Rocky mountains.

3. Stewart Creek

2. Silver Tip

You‘ll notice a change from last year's list that had Kidd ahead of Stewy. When the list gets updated every course needs to be re-evaluated on where it sits within the rankings. Now this could change again since I'll be playing Kidd in July for the first time since the reno but recently playing Stewy and thinking about my AGT debut brought back some good memories and sparked some thoughts about the course overall. Stewart Creek is so solid.

And still...

1. Jasper Park Lodge

Even one of my poorer rounds there this weekend did not ruin my mood. There's just something special about that place.

Still on the "waiting list":

  • Waterton Lakes

  • Crowsnest Pass (stumbled across a few photos from here the other day and was amazed. I need to play here pronto!)

  • Canmore Golf and Curling Club (potentially playing July 2019...)

Where do we all stand on the updated version of the list? What are your favourite mountain tracks? Warning: it's extremely difficult to try and put the courses in a list!
