U - S - A! U - S - A!
I step away from the PGA tour picks this week to look at the LPGA’s second major of the year. The US Women’s Open will be held at Shoal Creek Golf and Country Club in Birmingham, Alabama.
Fast Facts:
Brought to you by the topped 3-wood I hit on hole 16 of my second round of my first ever Alberta Golf Tour event this past weekend. Boy, was my face red.
- The Jack Nicklaus design has never hosted an LPGA major championship but has hosted two previous PGA Championships.
- Tropical Storm Alberto has put some pressure on the USGA to potentially put in place a full lift, clean and place rule after 4 inches of rain has doused the area.
- With an exemption this week Karrie Webb will be playing in her 23rd straight US Women’s Open.
So these girls can play. This much I do know. But should more of these LPGA events get covered by #neilerknows I am going to have to start doing my homework and hopefully all of us can start appreciating and paying attention to these extremely talented athletes a little more. I was never a great student so homework was never my favourite (you’re talking to a glorified gym teacher basically) but here are my horses this week that have a chance to win it all:
Jessica Korda
Do I have a golf crush on Jessica Korda? Yes. Am I going to let it affect my pick this week?... Let’s just call this the Gary Woodland effect right Leah??
Brooke Henderson
Something just clicks in our brain that makes us cheer for Canadians. Not saying it’s bad, it’s just weird. But we do have a true front runner in Brooke Henderson that will be primed for a second major championship win and I’ll proudly show my Canadian colours if that happens.
Ariya Jutanugarn
Not to be confused with her sister Moriya who is also having a great year, but Ariya Jutanugarn has been lights out this season. It’s more likely for her to win this week than me saying her name right.
Inbee Park
The World Number 1 summed up in one phrase: “All I do is win, win, win no matter what.” T-Pain fans anyone?
For All the Marbles
It didn’t affect the pick I promise. I PROMISE. Jessica Korda is going to win the 2018 US Women’s Open. An already steady year of consistent golf and great scores are going to come together in a big way when she’s hoisting her first Major Championship trophy over her head Sunday afternoon.Maybe I should start a fan club for her. The Korda-boys where we wear corduroy pants and cheer on Jessica? Admit it, that was clever *gives self high-five*.So? Any LPGA fans out there? Want to join me on the journey of becoming one? Let me know who your pick is this week by interacting with @GolfLifeAB and myself at @10Neiler on Twitter. #neilerknows that regardless the result, the FOX Sports coverage will be totally worth the watch this weekend. Can someone say Pro Tracer!
