The CP Women’s Open visits our provincial neighbours to the east for the first time as Wascana Country Club in Regina, Saskatchewan hosts our National Open this week. A friendly gesture by the LPGA and Golf Canada to give Roughrider fans some real sports to watch this weekend if you ask me. Lions win by 17 on Saturday. That’s a #neilerknows guarantee. I’ll be honest I haven’t been able to pay attention to the LPGA as much as I had wanted to when I last wrote about the US Open a couple months ago. Don’t worry my love for Jessica Korda is stronger than ever. But let`s take a look at our National Women's Open this week.

The "Canada" Part of the Article

So having a Canadian win any Canadian event is a big deal. And I’m sure that can be said about any native to their own country winning their national championship. But seeing as I am a Canadian I have to at least mention the possibility of it this week. Hmmm I'm getting some weird deja vu here...This automatic sense of National pride just kicks in. I can't explain it and it’s so weird why it happens. There will be a strong home town contingent out cheering on the nearly 20 Canadian golfers in the field this week but of course the spotlight turns to World number 14 Brooke Henderson who would look to be the first Canadian winner of the tournament since 1973. Can she do it? Yes, duh, she’s incredible. But she will not be my pick this week. And thankfully the only mention of hockey this week for an event taking place in Canada has been Alena Sharp repping a #HumboldtStrong bag showing her respects to those lost in the tragic accident that happened last April. A Homecoming, Sort of

My first experience as a golf fan was when this Championship was held at the Royal Mayfair in Edmonton. And that week was dominated by (at the time) amateur Lydia Ko as she was crowned for the second time in as many years as the CP Women's Open champion. So she's my pick to go home with her 4th title. I think it’s obvious to see that she loves this tournament and has obvious success when this tournament shifts to the west with all three of her CP Women’s Open wins taking place in Alberta and British Columbia. https://twitter.com/cpwomensopen/status/1032315161116389377 I don’t think she’d even mind if there were fans fixed with stupid watermelons to their heads cheering her on. So what do we figure is more likely to happen? A Roughrider win or Lydia taking home the CP Women’s Open? My money is on Lydia because those Riders are a tire fire.
